Arrived in Prague around 6:30 p.m. on 4/19.  The drive was interesting — our GPS tried to route us along a non-existent road for part of the way.  Apparently, the road was under construction and our GPS didn’t know.  Luckily, we knew the general direction that we needed to go so we just headed off along a country road.  The GPS caught back up with us after about 20 km.

Our hotel is very near the old town area along a small street.  Of course we need at least one obligatory tourist picture also :-).  The plaza “paving” (like all of the roads, plazas, and walkways) are stone.  I’d like to know how old they are.  The are very difficult to walk on (and are quite loud when a car drives on them), but the are probably quite resilient.  Perhaps one of my civil engineering colleagues can comment.  On a side note, this is the second picture where I used my foot to give scale to the picture.  I’ve never done this before, but twice in this trip — hmmmmm… coincidence?

Currently, there is an exposition of Czech art from Ivan Lendl’s private collection. We didn’t go in because the line was way, way too long, but I’m sure it’s an excellent collection (not to be confused with John McEnroe’s art collection, though).

Kristi and I visited the Prague palace today. She made me take this picture overlooking Prague. I’ll go ahead and get the similar picture from the Charles Bridge out of the way (since you’re already laughing).

We were also able to have some “original” kolatches while we were here. They were surprisingly hard to find, but were quite good.

The castle was pretty remarkable for its size and varied architectural styles. Not too many pictures — I’m quite certain that there are many, many books with better pictures.
